For destinations where chloroquine-sensitive malaria is present, in addition to mosquito avoidance measures, the many effective prophylaxis options include chloroquine, atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, mefloquine, and tafenoquine. Usual Adult Dose for Malaria Prophylaxis. 500 mg chloroquine phosphate 300 mg base orally on the same day each week Comments-If possible, suppressive therapy should start 2 weeks prior to exposure; if unable to start 2 weeks before exposure, an initial loading dose of 1 g chloroquine phosphate 600 mg base may be taken orally in 2 divided doses, 6 hours apart. After the first week of all dosage regimens, peak and trough concentrations of chloroquine were above 16 micrograms l-1, sufficiently suppressive for chloroquine-sensitive P. falciparum strains. These data suggest that once daily chloroquine could be combined with proguanil in a single tablet and should improve compliance when given for malaria chemoprophylaxis. Does Plaquenil cause fatigue or fever? - Rheumatoid Arthritis May 05, 2010 I don't know if this is just the RA in full swing, or if it is a side effect of the Plaquenil. I have been running a low-grade fever around 99.8 for about. a week and a half now. It comes & goes and I can tell when it is up because I feel hot. My normal body temperature is low, around 97.5, so I don't know if 99.8 would be considered a fever.
